“Founded in 1976 by Ann Williams, the mission of Dallas Black Dance Theatre is to create and produce contemporary modern dance at its highest level of artistic excellence through performances and educational programs that bridge cultures and reach diverse communities. With an ever-expanding national and global audience, the company employs a diverse, multi-ethnic troupe of dancers performing for audiences of all ages and backgrounds.”
This is the background of the Dallas Black Dance Theater stated from their website and what inspired them to become what they are today.
“The vision of Dallas Black Dance Theatre is to fulfill its mission through performance and educational programs that bridge cultures, reach diverse communities and encompass ever-expanding national audiences.”
This was also taken from the Theaters site which talks about why its history is important and what it hoped to change.
I think that the Theater is extremely important because it allows for an exposure for everyone of possibly different forms of typical dance in the professional theater. It is also important due to the fact that almost no black people were allowed in professional dancing until now. This Theater has helped to reverse that.
This theater has been very influential and this review proves that. https://mysweetcharity.com/2019/07/dallas-black-dance-theatre-rolled-up-the-wyly-theatre-rug-for-the-big-dance/
